Dhaka, Rajshahi account for half of animals sacrificed this Eid

Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions accounted for nearly half of all animals sacrificed during Eid-ul-Azha 2026, according to divisional data released by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock today.

Around 93.7 lakh livestock animals were slaughtered during Eid, which was celebrated last week. Dhaka recorded the highest number, with 23.5 lakh animals, closely followed by Rajshahi with 23.4 lakh.

The rest were distributed among Chattogram, Rangpur, Khulna, and the other divisions.

The remaining six divisions accounted for the other half of the animals slaughtered this year, according to the ministry.

At a press briefing, State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said the number of animals slaughtered this year was 2.53 percent higher than the previous year's 91.4 lakh.
