August inflation eases to 8.26%

Inflation eased slightly to 8.26 percent in August, down from 8.32 percent in July, as food prices recorded a slower rate of increase, according to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) today.

Food inflation fell to 7.02 percent in August from 7.16 percent in July, providing some relief to consumers amid persistent pressure on household budgets.

However, the decline in overall inflation was partly offset by a rise in non-food inflation, which increased to 9.32 percent from 9.28 percent during the period.

On a month-to-month basis, the general price index rose 2.31 percent in August, while the rate for food items stood at 3.86 percent, BBS data showed.

This indicates that although annual inflation eased marginally, prices continued to rise sequentially, with food items registering a considerably higher monthly increase.
