All sectors to get export benefits like RMG: finance minister

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said today all exporting sectors would receive the same benefits currently enjoyed by the readymade garment industry.

Bonded warehouse facilities and back-to-back letters of credit would be extended to all export sectors, he added.

"If we can ensure the same benefits, exports of our country will be higher," he said at an event organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka.

Acknowledging concerns about misuse, the minister said a system could not remain closed because of a few bad actors.

"There is another scope to catch the thieves," he added.

The minister said that, given the current economic situation, the government may not be able to offer significant tax benefits.

However, the government would try to reduce the cost of doing business within the next three months, he said.
