Stocks keep rising
The Dhaka bourse rose for the second consecutive day today as the market continued to rebound from a three-day losing streak.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 73 points, or 1 per cent, to 6,742.
At the DSE, 286 stocks advanced, 69 declined and 23 remained the same.
Turnover, an important indicator of the bourse, rose 17 per cent to Tk 872 crore, up from the previous day's Tk 745 crore.
Alif Industries topped the gainers' list that rose 10 per cent followed by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Hamid Fabrics, Dacca Dyeing, and Salvo Chemicals.
Beximco Ltd was the most-traded stock with its shares worth Tk 71 crore changing hands, followed by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Asia Insurance, Sonali Paper, and One Bank.
Savar Refractories was the worst-performing stock, dropping 5 per cent, followed by Asia Insurance, AMCL Pran, Eastern Cables, and Provati Insurance.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rose today. The CASPI, the main index of the bourse in the port city, soared 217 points, or 1.12 per cent, to 19,639.
