Dhaka stocks begin day with a rise

The benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse rose today although the blue-chip index experienced a drop.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), increased 14 points, or 0.20 per cent, to 6,980 until 12.15 pm.

The blue-chip index, DS 30, however, fell 2 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 2,635.

The benchmark index rose as most of the stocks were in a rising trend, according to analysts.

At the DSE, 227 stocks advanced, 96 declined and 41 remained unchanged.

Sena Kalyan Insurance topped the gainers' list that rose 10 per cent followed by Hakkani Pulp,  Information Services Network, Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag, and Metro Spinning.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) fell.

The CASPI, the main index of the CSE, dropped 12 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 20,403.
