Panel to reform govt procurement
The government has formed a high-level committee to recommend ways to make the country’s public procurement system more effective.
The nine-member committee, headed by Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, will determine the rules of business for the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, according to a Cabinet Division notification issued yesterday.
It will also review the Public Procurement Act (PPA), 2006, and the Public Procurement Rules (PPR), 2025, and recommend changes to improve the public procurement system.
The committee will determine business rules for economic affairs and purchase committees, while reviewing the Public Procurement Act and Rules to suggest changes
The committee includes Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, Commerce and Industry Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Public Administration Adviser Md Ismail Zabihullah, State Minister for Shipping and the Bridges Division Md Razib Ahsan, and State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, and Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority Chief Executive Officer SM Moin Uddin Ahmed are also members of the committee.
