e-GP system halves tendering time

The electronic government procurement (e-GP) system, an online platform for public agencies to carry out procurement activities, is helping to expedite tendering processes, taking up just around half the time that was required earlier.

Earlier the lead time was 100 days but with the e-GP it now stands at 57 days, meaning a reduction of 43 days.

The e-GP system has also reduced costs by 6.9 per cent, since it saves up on use of paper and other associated expenses.

The gains were made public at a daylong Development Fair 2021 organised by the planning ministry at Planning Commission yesterday showcasing services and innovations of government offices under the commission which have contributed to national development.

State Minister of Planning Shamsul Alam inaugurated the fair.

Over 500 visitors had a look at a stall of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division presenting both its success and that of the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU), which runs the e-GP system.

Also on display was the CPTU's Citizen Portal, which provides citizens access to information regarding the countrywide procurement of goods and services and updates on different steps of procurement in their localities.

The portal also allows customisation or search functions through features like sorting or filtering as well as graphical data.

Citizens can interact through connected citizen blogs and social media and raise their voice and share observations on public procurement.

Moreover, policymakers, officials of procuring entities, experts, researchers and others are able to download procurement data following an "Open Contracting Data Standard" to conduct analysis and research to evaluate procurement performance.
