Two workers killed in city wall collapse

Two construction workers were killed and another was injured when a portion of a boundary wall collapsed on them in the capital's Gulshan yesterday.

The dead are Shamsul Arefin, 28, of Chandpur, and Ariful Islam, 18, of Netrakona, said police.

The identity of the injured who was sent to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitaion (Nitor), popularly known as Pongu Hospital, could not be known immediately, added police.

Police quoting locals said Shamsul and Ariful along with the injured were knocking down a boundary wall of a house at Kalachandpur, opposite to Jamuna Future Park.

Suddenly, a part of the wall collapsed on them around 12:45pm, added police.

Rafiqul Islam, assistant commissioner (Gulshan zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the incident killed the two on the spot.
