'Kidnapper' tutor held in city

Police caught a tutor red-handed taking a ransom after "kidnapping" his student in the capital's Pallabi yesterday afternoon.

The arrestee, Hasan Al Banna, 30, was a tutor of a nursery student of a school in Pallabi, Dadon Fakir, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, told The Daily Star.

Banna “abducted” the six-year-old boy when he was going to school around 10:00am and asked his student's family to pay Tk 2 lakh as ransom through a mobile banking account, the OC said.

As per his demand, the boy's father Yunus Laskar, Nalchhiti upazila chairman in Jhalakathi, first "paid him Tk 15,000" through a mobile banking account and informed police of the incident, the police official said. 

Police arrested the “kidnapper” when he along with the boy was waiting for the next payment on Mirpur Avenue-5 around 2:00pm, the OC added.

Yunus later filed a case against Banna with Pallabi Police Station.
