Jhenidah Den: 10 suspected militants sued

Police yesterday filed a case against 10 persons, two of whom have been named, on charge of setting up a militant den in Jhenidah's Porahati village, busted by law enforcers on Friday evening, and gathering explosives.

One Abdullah alias Provat, 38, who used to live in the house along with his family, and his wife Rubina Akther, 30, are the named two.

Police also detained Abdullah's mother-in-law Mazeda Khatun, wife of Abdul Latif of Dhanharia village in the sadar upazila, for interrogation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit along with Jhenidah district police cordoned off the house and recovered a huge amount of materials used in making bombs.

Investigators claimed it was a bomb-making factory of “Neo JMB” which its major leaders visited for operation meetings.

Abdullah and his associates went into hiding before the police operation and police are looking for them, Jhenidah Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh told The Daily Star.

Son of Chaiti Baul of Porahati village, Abdullah, a human haulier driver by profession, converted to Islam in 2012 from Hinduism.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Jhenidah Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Gakul Chandra, Abdullah set up the hideout after his marriage. He has three children.

Some seven to eight people used to visit the house and their plan was to conduct destructive activities across the country, reads the FIR.
