Dispute Over Polls: Jubo League man hacked to death

A Jubo League leader of Jhenidah's Kaliganj upazila was hacked to death while his companion, who is also an activist, severely wounded in Monohorpur village around midnight on Tuesday.

Deceased Bipul Mondol, 22, is the son of Fazlu Mondol and the organising secretary of Jubo League's ward 8 unit in Shimla-Rokonpur union.

Critically injured Jahangir Hossain, 23, son of of Islam Malita, is undergoing treatment at Jessore Sadar Hospital.

Six persons have been arrested and preparation for filing of a case was ongoing, Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam told The Daily Star. He did not reveal names of the arrestees "for the sake of investigations".

Bipul's cousin Rakib Hossain and uncle Israil Hossain said the attack was over previous enmity with a union parishad member elected last October. Bipul supported one candidate who had lost to the member, they added.
