Court records deposition of plaintiff

A Chittagong court hearing a firearms case centring the murder of former superintendent of police Babul Akter wife's Mahmuda Khanam Mitu yesterday completed recording the plaintiff's deposition.

A bail prayer of one of the two accused, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, was also turned down by Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Shahenur. The other accused, Monir Hossain, is out on bail.

Moreover, defence lawyers cross examined Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman of Chittagong Metropolitan Police's detective branch who filed the case with Bakalia police.

The court last sat on January 18, when the recording began. The next hearing is scheduled on May 2.

Mahmuda was stabbed and shot dead on OR Nizam Road near the GEC intersection while she was walking her son to his school bus stop near their home on June 5 last year.

Ehteshamul was arrested at Rajakhali area on June 27 after one murder suspect revealed he had supplied the firearms.

This led to Monir's arrest in the area that day when two locally made small arms, a revolver and a pistol, and six bullets were also seized. The court framed charges against them on November 22.

Police say Ehteshamul, who is also accused in the murder case, is Babul's “source” and Monir a day labourer.
