2 Shariatpur men admits killing girl

Two men arrested over the murder of a school girl in Shariatpur confessed their involvement in the crime, said police sources.

The body of the third grader was recovered from a jute field, about a kilometre away from her home on Saturday, a week after she had gone missing.

Her eyes, heart, liver, kidneys, uterus and some other organs were missing.

At a press conference yesterday, Additional Superintendent of Police Ehsan Shah of Madaripur said the arrestees -- Farid Sheikh and Zakir Sheikh -- were neighbours of the victim.

The law enforcers detained Farid based on the allegation of the victim's family. Zakir was arrested later on, Ehsan said at his office.

Talking to this correspondent, an official of Shariatpur police said both the arrestees gave confessional statement under section 164 before magistrates, admitting their crime.

They strangulated the girl to death after failing to rape her. Later, they dumped the body at the jute field.

The arrestees removed the organs from her body believing those would give off stench, he said quoting them.
