Chattogram-based visual artist Zihan Karim has curated a show at “Chobi Mela” for the second time. This year, the festival welcomes an energetic ensemble of South Asian artists to explore how they are dealing with these uncertain times.

In memory of noted playwright and Bangla Academy winner Mannan Hira, a two-day theatre festival, organised by Aranyak Natyadal, began at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) from today.

The film, “Dictionary”, starring Mosharraf Karim, Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan in pivotal roles, released at 35 movie theatres across India today. Directed by Bratya Basu, it is an adaptation of Buddhadeb Guha’s “Baba Howa” and “Swami Howa”. Mosharraf Karim plays a businessman in the film, whose English is weak.

Organised by Drik Picture Library Ltd and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, the 2021 edition of “Chobi Mela”, begins today. Titled “Chobi Mela Shunno”, the festival started with an inaugural rally at DrikPath Bhobon in the afternoon. At the end of the rally, celebrated photographer Shahidul Alam, along with other curators inaugurated the festival with an introductory discussion on the exhibitions.

Production company Nayantara Limited and Advertising Agency Paper Rhyme has recently signed an agreement, which enables the two organisations to work together to promote the upcoming full-length film 'Nandini'.

Renowned artist Wakilur Rahman’s solo exhibition, “There is no story” is currently underway at Shilpangan Gallery, Dhanmondi.The exhibition features 37 artworks by him, which are dominated by the essence of black and white shades. The event was inaugurated by artist Abul Baqr Alvi on February 9. Art critic Javed Jalil was also present.

After being closed for several months due to the ongoing pandemic, Dwip Gallery reopens in February this year with new exhibitions and other events. Prominent poet and painter Shamset Tabrejee’s second solo exhibition, “Random Vignettes”, curated by Mustafa Zaman, will be held at the gallery from February 12 to 26.

“Prem Puran”, a short film directed by young filmmaker Zahid Gogon, is set to release tomorrow on the OTT platform Lagvelki. It is inspired by “The Gift of The Magi” by O' Henry, “Raincoat” by Rituparno Ghosh, “Bhanga Chora” by Zahir Raihan and some true stories of jute mill worker leader Shahid Tajul Islam, who demanded justice for workers in our country. The story is set in Dhaka, Pabna and Kushtia.

Directed by Rouzbeh Heydari, a new thriller film, ‘Neon Lights’, featuring Dana Abraham, Kim Coates, and Brenna Coates among others, is currently in the works. The official teaser trailer of the film was released a few months ago.

“Makeup”, a film directed by Anonno Mamun with Tariq Anam Khan, Ziaul Roshan and Nipa Ahmed Real in prominent roles, was previewed by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board recently. Subsequently, the board members decided to ban the film.

Popular singer James received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine today at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital’s vaccination centre. He was regularly in contact with the hospital since the day that the vaccine reached Bangladesh.
