First look at “Judwaa 2” is a major throwback

“Judwaa”, Salman Khan's 1997 double role-comedy directed by David Dhawan was a remake of a remake (of Telegu film “Hello Brother” ripped off from Jackie Chan's “Twin Dragons”), and “Judwaa 2”, the first trailer of which came out today, is a throwback to the Salman-starrer.

Made by David Dhawan again, this time his son Varun Dhawan this time takes on the roll of Prem, and the story is pretty much the same trope of twins separated at birth but physically and mentally connected by some supernatural force that the original film was based on. Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandes take on the female leads (that were originally played by Karisma Kapoor and Rambha), and from the story progression to the remade songs ('90s Bollywood classics like “Tan Tana Tan” and “Oonchi Hai Building”) it is all-too-nostalgic for fans of the original. David Dhawan sticks to the genre he knows best, a slapstick comedy with intertwining plot-lines and a big climactic finale and succeeds in making a fair promise to deliver a thorough entertainer. From the physicality to the goofiness, Varun Dhawan embraces the double role, while one of the most refreshing things about the films appear to be a hardened, versatile actor like Taapsee take on a lightweight, glam role.

Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the production banner of the film, launched the trailer yesterday with a unique event – bringing 100 real-life pairs of twins for the event, along with the stars of the film. “Judwaa 2” is set for release on September 29.
