Asha Bhosle returns with “Begum Jaan” soundtrack
One of the legendary voices of the Indian music, Asha Bhosle is again ready to enthrall her fans with a soulful track in Vidya Balan's upcoming film “Begum Jaan”.
Composed by Anu Malik, the song is titled “Prem Me Tohre” and has a minimalist approach. While mostly heavy strings are used in the background, Asha's voice has been given enough prominence. It's not exactly a 'ghazal', but has elements of it.
Malik has intelligently given the song a modern outlook despite keeping the old-world charm. Kausar Munir has penned the song for the film, which is directed by Srijit Mukherji, and is a remake of Bengali film “Rajkahini”.
The film is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India, where members of a brothel fight for their survival and dignity as the border line is drawn straight over their home. The visuals of the song attempt to show another side of the life of these brothel girls: their emotions, celebrations and agony like any other human being.
The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Ila Arun, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Rajit Kapoor, Ashish Vidyarthi, Chunky Pandey, Poonam Singh Rajput, Ridheema Tiwari, Priyanka Setia, Mishti Chakraborty, Sumit Nijhawan, and Rajesh Sharma in pivotal roles.
“Begum Jaan” is scheduled to hit screens on April 14, 2017.
