67,229 accused get bail in 50 days
A total of 67,229 persons accused in criminal cases, including 755 children, have secured bail in 50 working days between May 12 and July 23.
A total of 870 children, who were detained on criminal charges, were kept in three juvenile development centres till July 23 as 508 accused children were sent to the centres between May 12 and July 23, Supreme Court Spokesmen Md Saifur Rahman said in a statement.
According to the statement, the lower courts across the country have heard and disposed of total 1,36,399 bail petitions in the 50 working days till July 23.
The courts granted bail to 6,822 people after disposing of a total of 15,495 bail petitions last week (July 19-23).
The subordinate courts concerned have disposed of surrender related petitions of the accused in 4,310 criminal cases and granted bail to 11,796 accused between July 19 and July 23 and sent 938 accused to jails in connection with the cases against them, the SC statement added.
More than 300 courts have granted bail to the accused after holding virtual petition hearings.
The virtual court functions began on May 11 after a gap of 46 days in order to deal with the urgent cases.
