6.22 lakh yaba tablets recovered from garage in Maheshkhali
Police recovered 6,22,000 yaba tablets while trying to douse a fire in the garage of a house in Maheshkhali municipal area of Cox's Bazar early today.
Police said the yaba tablets, worth around Tk 10 crore, were recovered from the garage of a house owned by one Salahuddin in Sikdarpara area.
Maheshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Hai, addressing a press briefing today, said a police team went to the area after getting reports of shooting there around 1:15pm.
Upon visiting the spot, they saw that a fire had broken out in the garage and immediately informed the Maheshkhali fire service. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control, he said.
Later, police searched the garage to find out the cause of the fire and found 6,22,000 yaba tablets in a box stored in the back of a burnt private car, the OC said.
Police also seized the burnt car and three motorcycles from the same garage.
Addressing the press conference, Zahedul Islam, senior assistant superintendent of police of Maheshkhali and Kutubdia circle, said this is the biggest haul of yaba tablets in Maheshkhali so far.
Police are trying to arrest the main suspect Salah Uddin, an accused in three cases filed under the drugs and arms acts.
