Four persons, including an employee of Titas Gas and its two hired day labourers, were injured in an explosion at Dhaka's Panthapath area -- minutes after they went there yesterday afternoon, hearing of a possible gas line problem.

The injured are: Abdullah (55), employee of the gas company; two hired labourers Azim (40), Ruhul Amin (40); and pedestrian Kazi Zafar (30).

They were immediately rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Azim and Zafar were admitted to the hospital with 30 and 27 percent burns while the two others left the hospital after taking treatment, said Abdul Khan, assistant sub-inspector of DMCH Police Outpost.

Mirza Rabiul Alam, a technician of Titas' Dhanmondi Zone, said they received a complaint that there is a problem with the underground gas line at Panthapath-Green Road.

Upon receiving the news, a team was sent there yesterday afternoon for repair. An explosion occurred moments after they reached there, leaving them injured.

Rabiul said it was not yet known what actually caused the blast. It is being investigated whether there is any gas leak.
