A total of 39 Bangladeshi citizens, who were stranded in India for around two-and-a-half-months amid flight suspensions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, returned home today on a special flight of Novoair.

"Carrying the Bangladeshi passengers from Kolkata, the special flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:18pm," Novoair said in a press release.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, Bangladesh suspended regular flight operations on all international routes except for China since mid-March.

Earlier, around 4,000 Bangladeshis were brought back home from different cities in India on special flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines.

As per the government's decision, all returning Bangladeshis would have to remain in 14-day institutional quarantine under the management of the Armed Forces Division if they fail to show medical certificates on being Covid-19 negative at the airport upon arrival.

Besides India, Bangladesh also repatriated stranded citizens from other countries including the UK, USA, Australia, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
