3 ‘sleeping on railway tracks’ crushed under train in Netrakona

Three youths -- two siblings and their cousin -- were crushed under the wheels of a train in Barhatta upazila of Netrakona early today.

The deceased -- Ripon Miah (24), his brother Swapan Miah (22) and their cousin Mokhles Miah (24) -- were residents of Dashal area where the incident happened, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.

Md Mazharul Haque, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Government Railway Police, told The Daily Star that they were crushed under the Mohonganj-bound Haor Express from Dhaka in Dashal area around 3:30am.

They were digging a pond with shallow machine near the rail lines in Dashal area, the OC said.

Police suspect that they fell asleep on the tracks some time at night and could not hear the train due to the sound of shallow machine. 

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Netrakona General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
