Anti-corruption concert December 29

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) is going to organise the first ever anti-corruption concert in the country on December 29 with a view to inculcating anti-corruption values in younger generation.

With the slogan 'Invincible youth shall resist corruption', the concert will be held at Gulshan Youth Club in Dhaka from 2:00pm to 10:00pm. The concert can be viewed by a live webcast via a special link on TIB website (www.ti-bangladesh.org). Highlights of the concert will be telecast on Channel i on the day.

The corruption watchdog, in association with Channel i, Banglavision, The Daily Star, Radio Today and Radio Foorti, will bring together country's frontline pop singers, music bands and folk singers at the concert.

The performers include Azam Khan, Hayder Hussain, Shahed, Fahmida Nabi, Mehrin, Rab Fakir, Shahjahan Fakir, Aklima, LRB, Miles, Renaissance, Souls, Feedback, Warfaze, Dalchhut, Black, Pentagon, Artcell, Shiro-namheen, Orthoheen, Face2Face and Meghdal.

Eminent personalities, including Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, Chairman of TIB Board of Trustees Prof Muzaffer Ahmad, former adviser to the caretaker government Sultana Kamal, noted writer Prof Zafar Iqbal, will attend the programme to express solidarity against corruption, organisers said at a press conference yesterday.

"The main objective of the concert is to motivate the young generation to combat corruption. The TIB is working to develop youth leadership who will resolutely say 'no' to corruption and play the leading role in resisting corruption," said Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of TIB, at the National Press Club.

The concert is part of TIB-sponsored programme 'Youth Engagement and Support' (YES), which aims at raising awareness among the youths about democracy, good governance and anti-corruption values.

Interested persons can collect free entry coupons of the concert from TIB office at Progress Tower, House-1, Road-23, Gulshan-1. Students and youths will be given preference during the distribution of coupons. Coupons will also be available at Channel i, Bangla-vision, The Daily Star, Radio Today and Radio Foorti offices.

TIB Senior Advocacy Officer Sazzad Hussain, Executive Director of Radio Foorti Shakil Manzur and model and TV star Sharmin Lucky also spoke at the press conference.
