Ensure safe journey by water transports during Eid

"All concerned have to perform their obligations sincerely through putting coordinated efforts and undertaking all legal measures to ensure hazard free and safe water transport system," he added.

The adviser said this while presiding over a meeting on ensuring safe water transport system, including safe maneuvering of launches, steamers and ferry services from Sadarghat to long-distance destinations on the occasion of coming Eid-ul-Azha.

The meeting was held at the shipping ministry at the secretariat. Chairmen of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Director General of Department of Shipping, President of Launch Owners Association and President of Launch Employee's Federation, deputy commissioners and police supers of the concerned districts attended the meeting.

The meeting emphasised ensuring that the passengers are carried within the capacity of launches and steamers and rooftop journey is totally stopped.

The meeting also decided to arrange additional water transport vehicles on the occasion of the Eid to ensure safe and smooth transport of passengers.

It also gave directives to the deputy commissioners of the concerned districts to ensure safe water challenges by undertaking measures so that fishing nets do not create any trouble for the maneuvering of launches and steamers. Besides, concerned authorities were asked to ensure navigability of the channels and navigational marking.
