Tree felling protested in Rajshahi

RU Correspondent
Hundreds of students of Rajshahi Government College yesterday staged a demonstration in protest against felling of trees of rare species on the campus.

To press home their nine-point demand, the students also announced to stage a sit-in in front of the administrative building today.

The college authorities, however, have already felled at least 30 old trees over the last several months to make furniture.

The students also placed their nine-point demand in a rally chaired by Mustahim Jaman Imon.

The demands include stopping felling of the trees, operation of college student Union, reduction of women's dormitory fees and distribution of admission forms free of cost.

Blaming the negligence of college Principal Sham-Ul- Haque, the students in the rally said he has been committing misdeeds one after another after becoming the principal.

They threatened to enforce tougher agitations if their demands are not met.
