WFP to give 60,000 tonnes of foodgrains for VGD programme

This was stated at a meeting organised by the central coordination committee of the VGD programme in the conference room of the food ministry here, an official handout said.

Chaired by State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Alamgir Kabir, the meeting was also attended, among others, by Women and Child Affairs Secretary Kamaluddin Ahmed, acting Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Sheikh Enayet Ullah, high officials of the ministry concerned and NGO representatives.

The meeting informed that under the VGD programme, 2.60 lakh tonnes of foodgrains are required to cover the 7.50 lakh beneficiaries.

Alamgir Kabir said after introduction of the effective VGD programme, the country already witnessed a tangible change in the economic emancipation of women.

"The government has been implementing manifold development endeavours for women for involving them in the development process of the country," he added.
