World Standards Day today

Bss, Dhaka
The World Standards Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world today.

The theme of the day is "Standards: Big benefits for small business."

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), the country's sole authorities responsible for monitoring the quality of local products, has drawn up special programmes to mark the day.

On the occasion, President Iajuddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia have issued separate messages.

In his message, the president said in this age of free economy, maintaining the overall standard of the local products is inevitable to make them sustainable in the global competition.

Khaleda Zia in her message said Bangladesh has already put its allout efforts toward progress of small and medium enterprises to achieve its industrial development goals.

She said the precondition of industrial development of a country depends on expansion of its exports market and meeting local demands through producing quality goods.
