4 killed in road accidents
Our correspondent in Tangail reports: At least two people were killed and 25 others injured in a collision between two buses at Natiapara in Delduar.
Police and witnesses said the accident took place at around 9:30am when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Bogra collided head-on with a Tangail-bound bus from Dhaka on Dhaka-Tangail highway, leaving 27 passengers injured.
Fire service personnel and locals immediately rushed to the spot and began a rescue operation. They recovered the injured people and sent them to hospital.
Of the injured, Zaida Begum, 45, of Dhunat in Bogra and one unidentified youth, aged 30, died on the way to Tangail General Hospital.
Apu, a six-year-old girl who was serious injured, was sent to Dhaka.
Police seized both the buses but the drivers and helpers managed to escape.
UNB adds: Two rickshaw-van drivers were killed and another received injuries in a road accident near Basantapur Bazaar in Sadar upazila under Rajbari district yesterday noon.
Police said a Patuakhali-bound bus from Dhaka knocked down three van drivers, who were standing on the roadside on Rajbari-Faridpur highway.
They were rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, but two of them -- Seken, 40, and Hashem, 38 -- died on the way.
Condition of another injured was stated to be critical.
Police seized the bus, but its driver fled away.
