Action to be taken against corrupt officials
The assurance came when leaders of the Biman Sammilita Sangram Parishad met him at his secretariat office in the city and demanded immediate removal of some top officials involved in corruption, meeting sources said.
"The state minister has assured us of taking immediate action to remove the corrupt officials within two or three days," said a Biman employee, who was present at the meeting, preferring anonymity.
"I know who are corrupt and will take steps to remove them within next two days," he quoted the state minister as saying.
At the three-hour meeting, Mirza Fakhrul Islam also assured the Parishad leaders that proper steps would be taken soon to provide a fund of Tk 550 crore for the Biman, the national flag carrier.
He also said that steps would be taken to procure 10 new aircraft -- four Boeing 777s and six Airbus 330s -- for the Biman fleet, the sources added.
The Parishad leaders told The Daily Star last night that if the state minister fails to keep his promises by October 10, they would launch a fresh agitation.
