East London Raid

Wounded terror suspect wants to clear name

Afp, London
A British man who was shot in a police raid is "bewildered" by his treatment as a terror suspect and wants to clear his name but was still not fit enough to undergo questioning, his lawyer said yesterday.

Newspapers meanwhile led a chorus of doubts as to whether he and his brother, described by neighbours as devout Muslims from a Bangladeshi family, were involved in what security sources fear is a chemical weapons plot.

Police declined to comment on whether they would interview the suspect who was wounded in the upper body during a dawn raid Friday in east London before being arrested along with his brother on suspicion of terrorism.

"It's in the judicial process," a spokeswoman for London's Metropolitan said.

Police said that they had transferred the suspect, whom lawyers named as Mohammed Abdul Kahar, from the Royal London Hospital to Paddington Green high security police station in central London on Sunday.
