Nepal Maoists abduct 56 students, 5 teachers

By Pti, Kathmandu
At least 56 students and five teachers were abducted by Maoists from two Nepalese districts, police said on Wednesday.

Fifty-three students and two teachers were abducted from a school in Kaski district in western Nepal on Friday, they said.

In another incident, three teachers and as many students from another school in Diktel of Khotang district in eastern Nepal were kidnapped by Maoists, police said, adding they have been taken to unknown destinations.

Maoists, who are fighting against constitutional monarchy in Nepal, have been abducting people despite their announcement of three-month unilateral truce during which they promised not to harm civilians.

The rebels abduct students and allegedly try to indoctrinate them with their Maoist ideology.
