CCC polls: Mohiuddin led althrough

The most stunning one is ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury's clear supremacy over his rival Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin in most of the 41 wards and 577 centres.

Awami League backed Nagorik Committee candidate Mohiuddin Chowdhury has virtually swept the polls in at least 17 wards and also made his presence felt in 17 more wards. On the contrary, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-backed four party alliance candidate Mir Nasir, also the state minister for civil aviation and tourism, did well in only six wards!

The 17 wards where the incumbent mayor outclassed the state minister are: Rampur: Ward-25, Firingee Bazar: Ward-33, Patharghata: Ward-34, Gosaildanga: Ward-36, South-middle Halishahar: Ward-37, South Halishahar: Ward-39, West Sholoshahar: Ward-07, North Pahartali: Ward-09, Saraipara: Ward-12, Pahartali: Ward-13, Bagmonirum: Ward-15, Jamal Khan: Ward-21, South Agrabad: Ward-27, Pahartali: Ward-28, West Madarbari: Ward-29, Boxirhat: Ward-35 and South Patenga: Ward-41.

Besides, Mohiuddin had clear edges over his rival in 17 other wards. They are: South Kattali: Ward-11 (12 centres out of 15), Enayet Bazar: Ward-22 (7 centres out of 10), Agrabad: Ward-24 (22 centres out of 27), Anderkilla: Ward-32 (8 centres out of 11), Jalalabad: Ward-02 (12 centres out of 18), Panchlaish: Ward-03 (9 centres out of 14), Chandgaon: Ward-04 (13 centres out of 22), Sholok Bahar: Ward-08 (21 centres out of 26), North Kattali: Ward-10 (6 centres out of 9), Chawk Bazar: Ward-16 (8 centres out of 15), West Bakalia: Ward-17 (10 centres out of 15), Dewan Bazar: Ward-20 (8 centres out of 12), North Pathantuli: Ward-23 (5 centres out of 8), North Halishahar: Ward-26 (6 centres out of 9), East Madarbair: Ward-30 (11 centres out of 15), North-South Halishahar: Ward-38 (16 centres out of 20) and North Patenga: Ward-40 (9 centres out of 13).

Mir Nasir did good in South Pahartali: Ward-01 (8 centres out of 10), East Sholoshahar: Ward-06 (11 centres out of 13), Lalkhan Bazar: Ward-14 (7 centres out of 12), East Bakalia: Ward-18 (6 centres out of 11), South Bakalia: Ward-19 (9 centres out of 12) and Alkaran: Ward-31 (6 centres out of 10).

In Mohra: Ward-5, Mohiuddin and Mir Nasir shared nine centres each.

Of the 577 centres, Mohiuddin Chowdhury was ahead in 450 centres and the rest went in favour of Mir Nasir. This clearly shows the dominance of Nagorik Committee candidate in this election.

Mohiuddin Chowdhury has not only kept his vote banks unhurt but also found good spaces in ruling BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami or Mir Nasir's strongholds.

The CCC wards in Chandgaon, Mohra, Sholok Bahar, Pahartali, Kattali, Lalkhan Bazar, Chawk Bazar, Agrabad, Bakalia, Enayet Bazar, Pathantuli, Rampur, Halishahar, Gosaildanaga and Patenga are known as ruling party or Jamaat-dominant areas. Yet, Mohiuddin Chowdhury did exceptionally well in those areas.
