Four pathological laboratories started medical tests and issuance of certificates in the port city on March 15 to the job seekers in six Middle East countries.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) approved the four laboratories. The labs also formed GCC Approved Medical Centers' Association (GAMCA), Chittagong to monitor their activities.

The labs are Shevron, Dhaka City Diagnostic Clinic Limited, Check-up Diagnostic Centre and Dalla Medical Centre.

Sources at GAMCA, Chittagong said that medical test and certificates were a must for job seekers for visas of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier, people of greater Chittagong, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Feni, Noakhali and Comilla districts were to go to Dhaka for such tests and certificates, they said.

Considering their problems, a GCC delegation visited Chittagong recently to select the four laboratories and formed the GAMCA, Chittagong, said Dr AA Golam Martuza, president of GAMCA.

Sources said that some 25 to 30 tests are required for a visa. One will have to get registered with the GAMCA, Chittagong Centre (House No. 25/D, Road # 3, Katalganj Residential Area) for the test. The centre will charge Tk 1500 per head for the test.
