6 receive Berger art competition prizes

The prize giving ceremony of Berger Young Painters' Art Competition-2004 was held at the Hotel Sonargaon on Saturday, says a press release.

Six winners of the competition were awarded in the ceremony. They were selected by a jury from 348 paintings submitted by 192 young artists from across the country.

Masih-ul-Karim, managing director of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd., said "Social responsibility as well as corporate interest in nurturing the young talents worked as the driving force for us to continue this effort of patronising the young Zainul Abedins of the country for the last nine years." Professor Qayum Chowdhury, chairman of Berger Young Painters' Art Competition-2004 Jury Committee, congratulated the winners.

The winners are Salina Haque Lina, Md Imran Ali, Pintu Chandra Deb, Dip Narayan Biswas, Touhin Hasan and Shahida Begum.

Berger will organise an exhibition of 40 selected paintings at the Zainul Art Gallery of the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka from December 6 to December 10.

The exhibition will remain open from 11:00am to 7:00pm everyday.
