3rd Int'l Festival of Photography begins today

The third International Festival of Photography, Asia 2004 Chobi Mela III, one of the largest photography exhibition in the world, begins in the city today.

A total of 1068 photographs from 17 countries will be exhibited in the festival which will be participated by internationally renowned photographers like Pedro Meyer of Mexico, Morten Krogvold of Norway, and Tarek Al-Ghoussain of the UAE.

Organised by Drik, the festival will be formally inaugurated at the Alliance Francaise gallery at 4.00pm.

Earlier, a procession will be brought out from Pathshala, a photography teaching institution, which will end at the Alliance Francaise.

The exhibition will continue till December 23 at seven venues including Goethe Institut, British Council, Drik Gallery, Russian Cultural Centre, Abahani Ground and Muldhara International Centre.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, festival director Shahidul Alam said four legendary Bangladeshi photographers- Golam Kashem Daddy, Manzoor Alam Beg, Amanul Haque and Shamsul Alam Almazi- would be awarded for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of photography.

There will also be a mobile exhibition in the city with the help of ten vans.

Apart from photography exhibition, lectures, seminars and screening of films from different countries would be held at Goethe Institut Auditorium from today to December 9.

The press conference was also attended by participating photographers of the exhibition.
