Students urged to unite to oust govt

The BCL, student wing of the opposition Awami League, made the call at a rally on the Dhaka University (DU) campus.
Addressing the rally, the BCL leaders said the government has lost all moral rights to remain in power and it is time to quit.
They said if the government does not take initiatives for international investigation into the grenade attack and bring the culprits to justice, they would go for tougher programme.
BCL President Liaqat Sikder said no one in the country is safe under the BNP-led government.
Presided over by DU unit BCL President Delwar Hossain, the rally was also addressed by Rafiqul Islam Kotowal, Ashraful Azim Rubon, Saifuzzaman Shekhor, Khan Moinul Islam Mustak, MA Momin Patwari, and DU unit General Secretary Hemayet Uddin Khan Himu.
Earlier, the BCL brought out a procession in support of the strike.
On the other hand, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of the ruling BNP, urged the student community to resist the evil force who enforced strike at all educational institutions to damage their student life.
Addressing a rally on the DU campus, the JCD leaders demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the culprits responsible for the grenade attack on Awami League rally on Saturday.
They said the culprits with the help of evil forces from home and abroad wanted to destroy the country's democracy.
They urged the student organisations to work together to make the country's democracy more stronger.
JCD President Sahabuddin Laltu said the culprits, who wanted to destroy the democracy, must be resisted.
JCD General Secretary Azizul Bari Helal, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Shafiul Bari Babu, Selimuzzaman Selim, Farhad Hossain Azad and Omar Farook Safin also spoke at the rally.
The JCD also brought out a procession where thousands of its activists from different colleges and metropolitan units took part.
Our JU Correspondent adds: Wearing black badges, about 250 JCD activists of Jahangirnagar University brought out a rally on the campus yesterday in observance of the 15th death anniversary of Habibur Rahman Kabir, a JCD activist.
Addressing the rally, the speakers vowed to resist all activities of Islami Chhatra Shibir at any cost.
They also recalled the contribution of Kabir to make the campus free from fundamentalism and communalism.
Kabir succumbed to his injuries on August 26 of 1989, eleven days after the shibir activists chopped him.
In protest, the then Chhatra Oikya ousted all shibir activists and banned its politics on the campus.
The JCD also arranged a milad mahfil at Shaheed Salam Barkat hall mosque.
