'Cancel tender for selling AJM machines'

Staff Correspondent
Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP) leaders at a meeting at Muktangon in the city yesterday demanded the government to cancel the tender for selling machines and destroying buildings of Adamjee Jute Mills (AJM) .

The government closed down the Adamjee Jute Mills in June, 2003.

The government shut down a number of mills and factories including Adamjee Jute Mills across the country without any reason leaving thousands of workers unemployed to live in human life, the SKOP leaders said.

The government does not want to pay heed to the problems, they said. Even tender has been invited for selling machines and destroying the buildings of the Adamjee, they added.

The SKOP threatened to wage a tough movement if the government did not reopen all closed mills and factories immediately.

The SKOP leaders also condemned the bomb attack on opposition leader Sheikh Hasina's rally at Bangabandhu Avenue leaving at least 19 people killed.

SKOP leaders Mokaddem Hossain, Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam and Wajidul Islam Khan spoke at the meeting.
