Gonoshasthaya distributes relief

Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) and Gono Bishwabidyalaya (GB) distributed 38.33 lakh hand made chapatis, 312000 bread rolls, 108900 soya protein biscuits and 23000 packet of Tulip soya milk among the flood victims in 37 upazilas, says a press release.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra also sent 30 medical teams in flood-affected areas. They treated over one lakh patients suffering from diarrhoea, pneumonia, skin and eye diseases and other ailments. The teams also distributed 24 essential drugs free of cost among the patients.

Gonoshasthaya Kendra Trust contributed Tk 60 lakh to the relief operation. All employees of GK and GB donated two days' salary for the flood victims. Businessmen, benevolent citizens and a multi national tea company contributed money and materials over Tk 10 lakh. The second phase of relief operations will begin soon.

The relief operations continued at Dunat in Bogra and in Gaibandha at the request of the local people and administration. Local activists of the Workers Party of Bangladesh is conducting relief activities in Gaibandha.
