Import, export thru' Benapole suspended
The government incurred a loss of about Tk 4 crore as import and export activities through Benapole land port remained suspended on Sunday on the occasion of the 58th Independence Day of India.
Over 300 trucks loaded with perishable and non-perishable goods, including onion and fruits, remained stranded at Petrapola border. On the other hand, 287 trucks loaded with Hilsha fish, Jute and Jute goods remained stranded at Benapole check post, customs sources said, adding that food items worth several lakhs of taka have started rotting.
The deadlock continued till 4:30pm yesterday, customs sources said over phone.
