They said the first and foremost duty of the press is to present news objectively, not to uphold the country's image.
The Centre for Development Communication, the Mass Line Media Centre and the Bangladesh Centre for Development Journalism and Communication jointly organised the conference on 'The freedom of the press versus the image of the country' at the British Council auditorium.
Journalist and columnist ABM Musa said the newsmen are now enjoying freedom to write, but they do not feel secure.
Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, executive editor of the daily Sangbad, presented the keynote paper.
News Today Editor Riazuddin Ahmed and The Bangladesh Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan chowdhury also spoke.
