Proper probe demanded
They alleged that Tongi police refused to record a murder case after Tipu Sultan John was found dead at his office on Saturday morning.
Police has filed an UD (unnatural death) case instead, although the preliminary investigations by the NGO suggested that it could be a murder, said the officials at a press conference.
Tipu, a messenger and caretaker of BDPC Tongi office, was found hanging with a rope from the ceiling of the office at around 8:15am, said its Director Sharif A Kafi.
"The officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station asked us to submit an FIR (first information report). As we finished writing the draft accusing the owner of the building and some former employees of the NGO, police refused to accept it and filed a UD case instead," he added.
According to an investigation conducted by the BDPC, Tipu was either strangled or poisoned to death and later the killers hung his body from the ceiling.
The officials said a gamchha (towel) found in the noose around his neck suggested that the killers put it so that the body does not slip out of the noose.
