CCC mayor threatens legal action against govt move

Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury yesterday vowed to take legal action against the government's move to hand over the operational charge of Shah Amanat International Airport to a foreign company.

He also threatened to launch a tough movement if the government does not cancel the move within the next one month.

National security would be threatened if a foreign company takes the operational charge of the airport as it is surrounded by naval base and other defence establishments, the mayor said at a press conference.

He also called on all to come forward to protect the airport.

"Earlier, we have won the legal battle against SSA over a proposed private port and we hope to win again this time," he said.

The mayor also alleged that Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been incurring a huge loss because of widespread corruption in the ministry concerned.

South District Awami League General Secretary Moslem Uddin read out a written statement on behalf of the mayor at the press conference held at the local press club.

Advocate Abul Kalam, engineer Sultan Ahmed, Dr Nurul Islam, Professor Momtaz Uddin Ahmed and AL leader Khorshed Alam Sujan were also present.
