Bakery employee murdered
Unknown assailants slaughtered Mainuddin Sikdar, 35, manager of Mister Food Products, when he was asleep in his room at the bakery at Nawabganj Lane around 1:00am.
"Hearing his scream, we rushed to his room only to find him groaning with cuts in his throat," said one of his colleagues who were sleeping in the next room.
They also found a bloodstained knife close to him.
Police detained Siddiqur Rahman, owner of the bakery, and five workers -- Abu Sayeed, Mannan, Russell, Manir and Jalil -- in the morning for questioning.
Mainuddin's uncle Shajahan Sikder filed a case with Lalbagh Police Station accusing worker Nasir, who went missing since the incident, and Anwar, a step-brother of Shajahan.
In Mohammadpur, 24-year-old AKM Ashraful Haque Prince, a student of Mohammadpur Central College, was stabbed in his stomach and back at 2:30pm allegedly by his friend Zakir following a feud over the sale of a mobile phone.
Russell Khondokar, 31, was shot at Dhanmondi over a sum of money he lent to his friend Tushar a year ago.
He said Tusher, who owed Tk 18,000 to him, fired point-blank at him near the Abahani Sporting Club. The bullet passed through his stomach.
In Mirpur, a labourer, Zakir Hossain, received a bullet in his stomach after the cadres of Hazi group fired at him over taking control of a ghat at Gabtoli at around 11:00am.
A gang of muggers shot Abul Kalam, 22, in his head and left hand and took away Tk 2,500 from him near the Mouchak Market at 10:30am.
In Badda, muggers shot 23-year-old Mohammad Rezaul, a fish trader, in his stomach and robbed him of Tk 7,000 at 7:00am when he got out of his house to buy fish from Karwan Bazar.
