President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Professor AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has called upon the government to take a long-term programme for the rehabilitation of the flood victims.

He made the call while talking to newsmen in Sylhet after visiting the flood affected villages under Sadar and Companyganj upazilas yesterday.

Prof Chowdhury said the ministers and parliament members were supposed to stand by the flood victims keeping the JS session suspended.

He said the government relief for the flood-hit people is not at all adequate.

The BDB chief called for starting the rehabilitation programme immediately in the affected areas.

He also called for necessary steps to check the outbreak of water-borne diseases.

BDB Secretary General MA Mannan said political parties were engaged in attacking each other in parliament when the flood victims were suffering untold miseries.

He said neither the BNP nor the AL thinks for the common men.

While visiting different villages at Sadar and Companyganj upazilas, Prof Chowdhury and Mannan enquired about their welfare.

Earlier they flew over different flood-hit areas in Chhatak and Sunamganj on their way to Sylhet.

They also visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA).
