Couple jailed for possessing heroin

Judge Manzurul Bachhid of the Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court gave the verdict in presence of the couple Mohammad Kalu Miah and Rokeya.

The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer six months more in jail.

Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of 4 prosecution witnesses.

In the case filed with Sabujbagh Police Station, it has been alleged that the Narcotics Control Department recovered 48 grams of heroin from their residence and arrested the couple with Tk 48,000 on May 2,1999. Later, a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against them the same day.

The investigation officer pressed charges against them on January 20, 2000 and the court framed charges against the couple on July 20 the same year.
