The discussion was organised by Bangla Academy on the occasion of the 35th death anniversary of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah at its seminar room.
Bangla Academy President Prof Wakil Ahmed, Director General Prof Monsur Musa, Prof Khaleda Salahuddin, Dr Hedaet Hossain and Mortuza Bashir participated in the discussion.
Director of Teachers' Training Centre Anamika Haque presented the keynote paper on 'Education thoughts of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah.'
Prof Wakil Ahmed said National Education Commission was formed several times but no commission included the views of Dr Shahidullah.
Although 75 years have passed, his proposed educational system is still appropriate, Prof Wakil added.
Prof Monsur Musa termed Dr Shahidullah's contribution to our language, literature and education enormous and said he had realised the actual condition of Bengali Muslims.
He laid emphasis on mother language for the progress of the nation, Prof Musa said.
Dr Shahidullah was the first Bengali Muslim researcher in the sub-continent and the only lecturer of Bangla department of Dhaka University in 1921.
In her paper, Anamika Haque dealt with different aspects of Dr Shshidullah's educational philosophy.
She said the writings of Dr Shahidullah had enriched our literature.
