Tk 221cr BCC budget announced

Barisal City Corporation (BCC) yesterday announced a Tk 221.74 crore budget for 2004-05 without imposing any new taxes.

Announcing the highly ambitious budget, Mayor Majibur Rahman Sarwar pledged to make Barisal a green, clean, beautiful and cultural city.

He, however, admitted that he could not carry out many development activities due to lack of funds.

The mayor sought people's cooperation in the development efforts of the corporation.

He also urged them to pay the taxes regularly.

Of the total amount in the budget, only Tk 20.81 crore will come from its revenue sources and the rest Tk 191.74 crore from various grants.

The highest allocation of Tk 50 crore has been earmarked for development of newly expanded areas of the city corporation.

The new budget also allocated Tk 21 crore for water supply sector, Tk 15 crore for water treatment plant, Tk 15 crore for construction of municipal market, Tk 10 crore for construction of mayor's residence and Tk 10 crore for healthcare projects.

Ward commissioners and officials of the city corporation and elite of the city were present at the budget presentation ceremony.
