Prof Ameen memorial scholarship to be introduced

The scholarship will be awarded to the best student of the Department of Zoology department every year, she said at a memorial meeting on Thursday.

Bangladesh Zoology Society and the Department of Zoology co-organised the meeting in memory of Prof Mahmud-ul-Ameen, a teacher of zoology department. He died of a cardiac arrest on June 28.

Paying tribute to the late professor, the speakers urged the government to name him a National Professor posthumously.

Prof. Ameen authored about 50 books and published more than 100 research papers in national and international journals.

The speakers also requested the university authorities to introduce a chair in his name in the zoology department.

Former advisor of the caretaker government ASM Shahjahan, former vice-chancellor Dhaka University Prof. AK Azad Chowdhury, Former vice-chancellor of Agricultural University Prof. AKM Aminul Haq, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Yusuf Haidar, Prof. Abul Bashar, Prof. Zaker Hossain, Dr. Anwara Begum and Prof. Nashida Banu spoke at the meeting.
