Ferry movement on Paturia-Doulatdia route remained suspended for about seven hours as three ferries ran aground at shoals in Padma.

The ferries were Bir Shrestha Jahangir, Keramat Ali and Shah Paran.

Officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Paturia said ferry movement was disrupted at 9:00pm of Thursday due to rise of shoals on the route.

Thousands of passengers and vehicles were stranded causing huge traffick jams on both sides of the river.

The ferries were, however, rescued at about 4.00am yesterday, BIWTC sources added.
