The prime minister said the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is implementing a Tk 170 crore project to shift the tannery to Savar. Land acquisition is expected to be completed in two months, she added.
She listed a number of measures taken by her government for improvement of leather industry and boost export.
Replying to a question from M Amzad Hossain, Khaleda said Pakistan will import 10 thousand tons of tea from Bangladesh at zero tariff following a request from her government.
She said Bangladesh Tea Board has taken necessary steps to create tea gardens in Chittagong under individual initiatives. Work on creating tea gardens in Panchagarh has also begun, she added.
Khaleda said measures have been taken to supply high breed tea plants to the garden owners.
Listing a number of measures to enhance shrimp export, she said seminars and workshops are being organised in Khulna and Satkhira regularly to encourage the shrimp cultivators.
Replying to a question from MM Shahin, Khaleda said her government has taken several epoch-making steps for the welfare and development of the disabled.
The government has adopted various programmes to integrate the disabled with the mainstream of development, she said and mentioned some of her government's short-term and long-term projects for the disabled.
Replying to a question from AM Riasat Ali Biswas, she said overall economy has consolidated following a number of steps taken by her government.
