CIRDAP celebrates silver jubilee

Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) celebrated its silver jubilee at a function in the city yesterday with the motto 'Fighting Poverty Together for Rural Development'.

CIRDAP was established at the initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and other donor countries and agencies for the development of Asia-Pacific region on July 6, 1979.

Addressing the function as chief guest, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said CIRDAP has greatly succeeded in achieving its mission and mandate.

The credit largely goes to the outgoing Director General of CIRDAP Dr Mya Maung, he added.

The minister assured that the government would always extend sincere support to CIRDAP, said a press release.

Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Hedayetul Islam, Dr Mya Maung , Dr Durga P Paudyal, new director general of CIRDAP, ATM Shamsul Haque , former chairman of Public Administration Reform Commission, and Dr Salehuddin Ahmed , managing director of Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation also spoke.
